Allyson Felix demonstrates how to wear a casual yet sporty ensemble while sitting courtside during the Lakers vs Thunder basketball game at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles last night.
As for her footwear, the seven-time Olympic gold medalist donned a pair of white Saysh One athletic trainers from the shoe brand she co-founded last year. The shoe’s silhouette is sculpted to fit the shape and shape of the female foot, with a unique heel and snug lacing system. The upper of the shoes is made up of jacquard textiles and microsuede which allow the shoes to breathe when on the feet of the wearer. The style retails for $150.
As for the outfit, Felix wore a matching brown and white plaid jacket with a white graphic t-shirt underneath that had a picture of Barack Obama catching a basketball. And on the lower half, Felix donned brown pants that almost matched the hue of his outerwear.
Plaid patterns first appeared in Scotland in the 1700s with distinct colors and weaves associated with different families and clans. Plaid was brought to the United States in the 1800s, finding a niche with outdoor enthusiasts and woodworkers. Although the pattern was popular among outdoor enthusiasts for decades and decades, it became an unexpected mainstay of grunge and punk fashion in the 1980s and 1990s. Today, a plaid flannel shirt is still a modern closet favorite.
A former Nike athlete, Felix co-founded her own sneaker brand, Saysh, last year.
“I didn’t realize there was such a big problem with women not being involved in the shoemaking process,” Felix said in an interview with She Knows. “As a professional runner, [to know that] the shoes I wear are not made for women, it’s crazy. How’s it going again? So it was very intentional that a woman create the shoe, that our designer be a woman. When you look on the tongue, you see Tiffany’s signature, you see Natalie Candrian, our designer’s signature. You see my signature.
