Kicking off the weekend with edgy styles, the 2022 FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week window displays were bold, colorful and made every show a memorable one.

From sporty and urban silhouettes to fluid and unisex designs, there was something colorful, something versatile for everyone. Here’s a look at some of the fashion designers who have made an impact with their designs on the runway.

ANANYA MODI JAIN

The designer, known for her simple silhouettes and unconventional aesthetic, celebrated NBA 75 with her sporty, street-smart line that reflected a fresh twist on the classics. The collection was inspired by the floor plan of the basketball court as well as the iconic New York skyline, the NBA logo and many other iconic teams. Its line has stayed true to its “form and function” ethos, offering unisex all-weather reversible garments including joggers, skirts, bralettes, sweatshirts and hoodies. Simple and versatile silhouettes, humorous graphics, digital prints and patchwork.

RAHUL DASGUPTA

Mark collection Shetu by Rahul Dasgupta which means ‘The Bridge’ in Bengali. Rahul, who drew inspiration from his previous collection, Sea to Sky, presented subtexts that spoke of gender fluidity, inclusivity and being socially misfits. The highlight of the collection was the unconventional drapes that stood out on the runway. For example, the saree draped like a lungi and worn with a jacket looked fierce yet chic on the model.

Eshaa Amiin

A sort of riot of color, Eshaa Amiin’s Deconstructed Geometry collection played with quirky textures, appliqués and denim. Trendy long coats paired with shorts, puff sleeve choli with denim joggers made a colorful statement on the runway. The matching colored turbans brought a touch of freshness to the collection.

RANNA GILL

Bringing a vibrant flavor of Morocco and the glamorous spice markets of Marrakech to the fore, Ranna showcased effortless resort wear. Her Casablanca Calling collection featured fun, simple silhouettes accented with giant bows, puff sleeves, and more. Versatile designs were complemented by playful modern prints and created in jewel tones. From jumpsuits and casual pants to bustiers and skirts, these ideal vacation clothes came in a myriad of shades of dark red, ochre, tangerine, marigold, charcoal and neutral black.

Janhvi Kapoor looked stunning in a lightweight brick red lehenga handcrafted with Rajashthani gotta and maroli work with tassels and a backless choli designed by Punit Balana.

PUNIT BALANA

Neutral hues, henna and earthy tones provided the perfect canvas for intricate thread and mirror work in Punit Balana’s collection titled Lakshmi, the collection fused Punti’s love for all things Rajasthan and superimposed his artistic expression on fused silhouettes. Flowing skirts with side pockets, printed corset cholis, bodycon dresses and thong cholis gave the collection a little something extra. Additionally, the cropped shoulders showcased the tiny cropped blouses that were stylish additions to the six-yard wonder – the saree. The inclusion of metallic bralettes and sleek peplum jackets further upped the style quotient, making this a memorable line.

SUNET VARMA

Glamorous, sexy and chic best describes the collection of Suneet Varma. Titled “The Eternal Lightness of Being,” Suneet collaborated with footwear brand Bata to create their first ready-to-wear collection. Short tasseled dresses, trousers, color-on-color sequins and thread embroidery on long evening gowns sparkled on the catwalk as models strutted around in style. The origami-inspired rope embroidery on the jackets was the highlight of the collection. The collection celebrated life in the moment through Suneet’s youthful and elegant designs.
