“With Y2K trends returning this year, it’s only natural that leatherette will come back into vogue. Leatherette has a sexy retro disco vibe that perfectly complements our creative design vibe. And in a tropical country like ours, upkeep leather of animal origin is a tedious task. On the other hand, the imitation leather is easy to maintain, it is vegan and I find it much cooler. They are available in different textures and colors and are versatile and unique as a fabric,” says fashion designer Aniket Satam of Pink Porcupines.

From iconic leather pieces such as pants, jackets and trenches to modern must-haves including dresses, shorts and two-piece sets, we are now entering a leather-centric season, which means it’s the right time to invest in it.

Here is an overview of what you can invest in if you want to own a leatherette outfit.

  • Blazer: The leather blazer is one of the season’s most versatile pieces, from classic cuts to exaggerated silhouettes with modern details.
  • Biker jacket: When it comes to leather, there is no piece as iconic as the biker jacket.
  • Trench coat: The trench coat will forever remain iconic, but leather instantly raises the bar for a more contemporary look. A fashionable leather coat is one of the easiest items to wear. All you need is your favorite combination of denim and t-shirt to let a faux snakeskin print really pop.
  • High: A leather top is a perfect piece to enhance your look with a subtle hint of luxury.
  • Day dress: One of the most striking yet easiest leather outfits to pull off the designer runways for Fall/Winter 2020 was undoubtedly the leather dress.
  • Evening dress: From above-the-knee cuts to floor-length dresses, black leather dresses add extra edge to evening attire.
  • Contrast with knitwear: A casual fall cardigan outfit is updated with luxe faux leather pants. The result is a beautiful textural contrast that’s kept casual with minimal accessories and the addition of a pair of comfy sneakers.
