Fashion designer Róisín Pierce, Nasa researcher Caoimhe Rooney and Abhilash Borana, the founder of Shannon-based Fáilte Solar, are among the “young talented visionaries” named to Forbes magazine’s annual 30 Under 30 Europe list this year. year.

Ms Pierce, founder and creative director of her eponymous womenswear brand, has been named one of the rising stars in the arts and culture category after launching her brand in 2020.

Hailing from Co Galway, the Dublin-based designer was named a finalist for the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers earlier this year, while in 2019 she received the inaugural Chanel Prix des Métiers d’Art.

Dr Rooney, from Belfast, is the only mathematician in a group of astrophysicists based at the Nasa Ames Center in Silicon Valley who study the atmospheres of planets beyond our solar system.

Educational initiative

She is also a co-founder of Mathematigals, an educational initiative aimed at increasing the representation of women and girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stem) subjects. She tweeted that she was “delighted and honoured” to be listed in the science and health category and “lucky to be doing the work I love at Nasa”.

Originally from India, Mr. Borana came to Ireland to complete his Masters in International Commercial Law and stayed there to co-found Fáilte Solar, a fast-growing solar power equipment wholesaler based in Shannon’s Western Business Park. .

Also on the list, in the tech category, is Nigerian-Irish Oshobugie (Bobby) Idogho. A former Deloitte consultant, Mr Idogho, who moved from Nigeria to Ireland aged seven, is the co-founder and managing director of Radically Digital, a London-based technology consultancy with more than 50 employees and which also has offices in Lisbon.

Rochita Dua, from Delhi, who is a senior international growth consultant for Google at its European headquarters in Dublin, was included in the media and marketing category. Ms. Dua, a “coach at heart”, has trained more than 10,000 people in digital advertising, helping start-ups and agencies.

Forbes’ comprehensive list names 300 people in 10 categories who are under 30 and “inspire change and drive innovation” in their respective fields. Some 59% are founders or co-founders whose companies have collectively raised more than $2 billion (€1.89 billion) in funding.
