New Balance sneakers are a constant reminder of how archival and modern influences can go together. The 327 is a great example of this, offering a 70s-inspired silhouette with fresh fabrics and modern touches throughout the aesthetic. Both comfortable and stylish, it fits easily into any summer wardrobe.

The New Balance 327 didn’t sneak onto the sneaker scene. It was launched in April 2020 as part of a collaboration with French-Moroccan brand Casablanca during Paris Fashion Week. Right off the bat, it put the 327 in front of the hippest people in a way they couldn’t ignore. (New Balance collaborations are rare — not as frequent as those of other sneaker brands — so when the label decides to partner with someone, you know it’s worth noting.)

Other 327 collaborative styles have since been dropped, including the vintage sports-inspired take done in partnership with it-girl favorite fashion brand Staud. Where the Casablanca collab was bright and bold, Staud’s was a bit more understated and sophisticated. It hasn’t been lost on sneakerheads either; these collaborations were so popular that they sold out instantly. Although you can shop a range of 327 colorways on Newbalance.com, some collaborations and special colorways may still be hard to come by, depending on how popular they are. So it’s best to stay on the lookout for your own signature pair.

The concept of the 327 comes from three different sneakers. It adopts the dramatic, oversized N logo of the modern 320 silhouette, the lightweight upper of the Super Comp running shoes, and the studded outsole of the 355 originally launched in 1977. The studded outsole is even more dramatic as it extends beyond the tip of the toe and onto the heel, providing both style and traction. Overall, the shoe is both retro and contemporary.

New Balance has dropped a whole slew of colorways from the 327 over the past two years, including unisex options and styles for the whole family. These have the comfort and support of a running sneaker or something you might wear all day but are infinitely more stylish, serving as a quiet yet powerful nod to your sartorial prowess and knowledge of the sneakers. The brand also played with the silhouette a bit by replacing the laces with zippers.

You can wear the 327 with just about anything. They look cool dressed casually with light, baggy jeans, a t-shirt and a baseball cap – providing the perfect finishing touch to a must-have summer uniform. You can also dress them up with a polished top and pants. And, of course, they’re a go-to option to wear with any athleisure fit you choose. Also look at some celebrities who love 327 for outfit inspiration. Timothée Chalamet wore them with selvedge denim and a cream sweater, while Katie Holmes wore them with wide black pants and a long coat.
